Fish Health

Bacteria / Fungus

Clamped Fins: Fins of fish are held close to body. This could be a sign of fungus and/or bacteria. Use Fungus Guard or Fungus Clear Tank Buddies. These are also effective as a preventive. In bowls only use the Gold Care Fungus Care.

Cloudy Eyes: White or gray film over eyes. This condition is a sign of serious fungus and/or bacteria. Use Fungus Eliminator, Binox or Fungus Clear Tank Buddies.

Fish Bloat (Dropsy): Fish bloated with protruding scales. Use Fungus Eliminator, Binox or Fungus Clear Tank Buddies to treat serious fungus and/or bacteria problems; In case of viral infection, also feed Pepso Food.

Fungus: Cottony growth on fin, mouth, tail or any part of body; Fish remain still on tank bottom. Use Fungus Guard, Fungus Eliminator, Binox or Fungus Clear Tank Buddies for fungus and/or bacteria related problems; In case of viral infection, also Feed Pepso Food.

Gill Disease: Gills may be swollen and pump fast; Slime may trail from gills; Fish swim in jerking motion. Use Fungus Eliminator, Binox or Fungus Clear Tank Buddies for serious fungus and/or bacteria; Feed Pepso Food.

Pop Eye: Eyes protrude from head. Use Fungus Eliminator, Binox or Fungus Clear Tank Buddies for serious fungus and/or bacteria related problems.

Rot (body, fin, mouth or tail): Black patches and/or white edges on fins; Mouth or fins decay; Frayed or jagged fins; Red sores on body. Use Fungus Guard, Fungus Eliminator, Binox or Fungus Clear Tank Buddies for fungus and/or bacteria related problems.

Red Streaks: Red blood streaks or blotches on fins or body. Use Fungus Eliminator, Binox or Fungus Clear Tank Buddies for serious fungus and/or bacteria related problems; In case of viral infection, also Feed Pepso Food.

Small Fish Death: Small, young or newborn fish die without visible symptoms. Use Small Fish Saver to clear saprolegnia fungus which invades the gills of small and baby fish; Can also use to treat Neon Tetra disease, Malawi bloat and swollen belly.

Swim Bladder Disease: Fish are unbalanced and have difficulty maintaining position. Use Fungus Eliminator, Binox or Fungus Clear Tank Buddies to treat swim bladder disease.

Thin Fish: Belly appears sunken; Fish are sluggish. Fish may have internal parasites. Feed Pepso Food to clean out intestinal tract.

Bacterial Slime Disease: During cold weather or low temperatures (especially with ponds), thick white mucous covers the body of fish such as Koi/Goldfish and other cold water fish; There is sometimes a reddish irritation of the affected areas. Use Fungus Clear Tank Buddies, Fungus Eliminator, or Binox to help clear bacterial slime.

Ulcers: Fish have lesions, reddening at the base of the fins and the vent; Loss of appetite and darkening of coloration. Use Fungus Clear Tank Buddies, Fungus Eliminator, or Binox to help treat these types of ulcers.

Tumors: Unusual growths or swellings on or in any part of the body; If tumors grow on internal organs, you may notice firm, noticeable swellings to the general body shape. No treatment available; Tumors are not necessarily fatal, but if concerned you can contact your vet; Some fish live years with tumors and some tumors even disappear with time.

Parasites

Anchor Worms: Tiny, threadlike worms hang from the body of fish. Use Parasite Guard or Parasite Clear Tank Buddies to safely and effectively treat anchor worms; Also helps protect against secondary infections; No need to raise the water temperature; Harmless to fish, plants and biological filter beds.

Black Spot Disease: Small, black specks on skin. Use Parasite Guard or Parasite Clear Tank Buddies to safely and effectively treat black spot disease; Also helps protect against secondary infections; No need to raise the water temperature; Harmless to fish, plants and biological filter beds.

Clamped Fins: Fins of fish held close to body which can be a symptom of parasites. Fish Lice: Flat, disk-shapes slowly moving on skin and fins. Flashing (itching): Irritation on skin causes fish to scrape against objects in tank; This can be a symptom of external parasites. Flukes: Small red spots on skin and/or fins; Fish scrape on objects in tank; Gills hang partially open and pump fast. Grey/White Slime: Appearance of grey/white film on all or part of body. Use Parasite Guard or Parasite Clear Tank Buddies to safely and effectively treat fish for grey or white slime; Also helps protect against secondary infections; No need to raise the water temperature; Harmless to fish, plants and biological filter beds.

Hole-In-The-Head Disease: Pin-sized holes or wounds in the head region caused by the protozoan hexamita; Poor water conditions and diet, overcrowding and fluctuating water temperatures can cause this parasite to multiply; This disease is common in Gouramis, Discus, Oscars and other Cichlids. Use Hole-N-Head Guard to treat for this disease and also feed Pepso Food.

Ick (white spot): White, sugar-like crystals on fins and/or body of fish; This condition is usually brought on by stress or fluctuating water temperatures. Use Ick Guard or Ick Clear Tank Buddies; No need to raise the water temperature; Guards against secondary infections; Use Ick Guard II for scaleless fish.

Internal Parasites: Fish are thin and listless; Loss of appetite; Pale, stringy feces. Use Internal Parasite Guard or Parasite Clear Tank Buddies; For maximum results, also feed Pepso Food while treating to help clear the fish's intestinal tract of parasites.

Neon Tetra Disease: Color fades from blue line which may turn yellow. Use Internal Parasite Guard or Parasite Clear Tank Buddies; No need to raise the water temperature; Also helps against secondary infections.

Shimmy: Fish rock, shake and tremble while staying in one place; This is not a disease, but a stress-related symptom caused by poor aquarium conditions or the onset of a disease. Use Shimmy Block or Molly Bright to prevent shakes and shimmy in livebearing fish, especially Mollies.

Thin Fish: Belly appears sunken; Fish are sluggish; These are symptoms of fish having internal parasites. Use Internal Parasite Guard or Parasite Clear Tank Buddies; For maximum results, also feed Pepso Food while treating to help clear the fish's intestinal tract of parasites.

Velvet: Skin or fins of fish appear dusty, with very fine spots in yellow or gray patches; Difficult to diagnose, it is often confused with ick and is fatal to young fish. Use Velvet Guard to help clear this disease; Treat immediately at the first signs of velvet disease

Protozoa: Irritation on skin causes fish to scrape against objects in tank; No parasites are visible. Use Ick Clear Tank Buddies or Ick Guard; No need to raise the water temperature; Protects against secondary infections.

Hydra: Small, stalk-like bodies growing in aquariums that have plants and live food; May kill and eat small fish and fry. Introduce Three-Spot Gouramis or Paradise Fish into the aquarium, or remove all fish and raise the water temperature to 104 Fahrenheit for several hours; Do a substantial water change, carefully siphoning aquarium floor and fill up with conditioned tap water at correct temperature

Detritus Worms: Small, usually white worms wriggle on the bottom and the sides of the aquarium but are not attached to fish. Increase frequency of water changes and be sure to use a siphon.
